I don't know the background to this event, but in my experience, the emergency services quite often park their vehicles irresponsibly. This happened to me earlier this year, and I couldn't get my car out of my drive for over an hour. The ambulance could just have easily parked just a few yards to the left, and then nobody would have been blocked in.
But as I say, this situation may have been different.
I agree with mikey.......however urgent the situation, the ambulances must park appropriately.
This oft used phrase "every second counts" is a nonsense but handy for TV series and novels. if a second would make a difference, then the outcome would not be affected.
Yes....I would be annoyed if my drive was blocked for the want of parking 5 yards nearer/further.
I too agree with Mikey, I was once blocked in my house because a doctor decided to visit his elderly patient - but instead of parking on her drive as it was difficult to drive out of - he blocked mine.
Wouldn't be too bad but he then called an ambulance as he wasn't happy with her and waited whilst it turned up for 3 hours!!! Refusing to move the car as he didn't want to leave is patient!!
All very well and good but I needed to go to work.
I think there are few people who would complain about an emergency vehicle blocking their drive if there were no alternative. Mikey was pointing out that, in his case, a little thought would have incinvenienced no-one.
the correct solution, surely is to tap on the door of the house, and ask politely if one of a pramedics could please move the ambulance so you can get your car out.
Whether they can or not, no-one except you and them is going to know that you asked.
Leaving a note in these internet-obsessed times exposes you to the wrath of the world for looking like an insensitive twonk.
Emergency crews are quite used to this sort of attitude and for the most part take it in their stride.
I had occasion to call an Emergency ambulance to attend my Mother, there was a function on at the Temple next door so they parked between the two rows of parked cars effectively blocking the road, they left their blue light switched on.
The car horns began almost instantly and someone even hammered on the lounge window, neither Paramedic flinched but continued with their job.
To have found a space to park they'd have had to go two streets away.
The man who left an angry note on an ambulance complaining that it was blocking his drive while paramedics tended to a critically ill man has said he is “disgusted with himself”.
