why do some people (men on the whole) take your number, text you a few times, wait a couple of weeks text you again, wait a bit longer, TEXT you again with more inane messages?? what's the point? do they like collecting as many girls numbers as they can and continue bugging them without asking them out?!?! phew!

I'm not into textual relationships myself, but here are a few questions:

Did you/do you reply? If the first mesage gets a reply then that might be the start of something; if the second message gets a reply, then the first can be ignored. If I'd reached the point of sending a third message and didn't receive a reply, I'd probably delete your number.

Are you making it clear you WANT to be asked out?

I can't stand it! except with me it was one guy who i haven't seen for years but i know hes always had a thing for me, but i am not interested, and when we met again he just bombarded me with nonsensical texts - some benny hillesque others soppy, just annoying!! he knows the score but still did it!

i largely ignored them and the tone, just replying simply and i think he's got the message!

but yes, as BM said - you ask him!

What makes you think that anyone has ever done any of these things? They haven't. Nobody has ever texted me. This is because I have never had a mobile phone.

i did ask but said didnt want a relationship?!?! then has continued sporadically over the last year to send me boring text messages. just said if he wants to contact me again my phone only receives calls, NO TEXTS.

Maybe it is a bravado thing so that he can show his mates that he has a few numbers of girls in his mobile and he can show off a bit when you reply. If it has been going on for a year it's unlikely he wants to ask you out, so either ignore his messages, tell him to stop his harrassment or get a new number.
