Night Poem From Khandro (Sat.)

LONGINGS
Like the beautiful bodies of those who died before growing old,
sadly shut away in sumptuous mausoleum,
roses by the head, jasmine at the feet --
so appear the longings that have passed
without being satisfied, not one of them granted
a single night of pleasure, or one of its radiant mornings.

‘Was there much pain?’
Not much.
A little when I could not find the door.
‘The door to where?’
The door....
The door to being loved. A weary climb.
‘You found love then?’
Oh yes.
As much as I deserved - and maybe more.
‘Behind the door?’
No, no.
I had it on my person all the time.
