Are You A Covoid Financial Winner Or Loser?

First of all this is concerning finances only - I know Covoid is no laughing matter and many people are suffering because of it. They have my sympathy.
If you are yours have not contracted Covoid, how is your pocket?

My income has not dropped and I have saved a lot of money because we have not been on holiday, have put far less fuel in the car, have spent a lot less on clothes, outings, eating out etc so we are financial winners. Even our supermarket shopping is cheaper with home delivery - no impulse buys. How's things with you?

I've saved money too Barry- same reasons as you apart from the fact I dont drive any more. Feels a bit strange with so much hardship around.

I'm glad you are doing well financially, Rosie. Maybe like me, you sometimes find it hard being cooped up with the people you live with, estranged from your loved ones you don't live with and feel deprived of your holidays. I miss eating out and going to the pub. I even miss going to the supermarket and mall (mall is such an American term I hate using it but what is the alternative?)

I can't wait for things to get back to normal. I refuse to believe there will be a 'new normal' and truly believe that there are people with the motivation and means to fill the gaps of failed businesses. I think we are heading for a boom time when us captives are let off the leash and can resume life as it was before. It won't be the same but maybe it will be better :)

Saved some money but got robbed by BA and Booking.com so, needless to say, wont be using them again.

Caran, we shall be kicking our heels soon, I'm sure. I have a lot of cancelled gigs to look forward to being rescheduled, a lot of day trips and holidays, No doubt those savings will soon be spent when the time comes :)

I had a flight booked with Ryanair to Madrid on 14th Dec. In the week before the flight I got an e-mail from them saying the Spanish authorities required evidence of a negative test for the virus. The test cost me £200.
When I arrived in Spain nobody wanted to see it.

In December’19 I paid off our mortgage and now I don’t have to fork out about £6k to go to work so we’re ludicrously better off and like everyone else have nowt to spend it on!

My husband's firm is booming and they got massive orders as a result of the pandemic, with my husband having to do the lion's share of the big orders.

As usual I've got more overtime and private work than I can shake a stick at, but that hasn't gone up or down since the initial outbreak.

I suppose we're probably better off because we haven't eaten out all that much due to being in Tier 3.

Well I am saving spends that would normally have gone to the hairdresser, dentist, optician etc. Have sold my car as it was not being used so saving all the associated costs of that.
However I lost all my income as my job was sacrificed and DHSS dreamed me not eligible to get any benefits. I don’t know if I will be able to get another job (at a tricky age, not far from retirement). We are currently living off my hubby’s pension and trying to be as frugal as necessary.

yes, I used to spend most on travel, so I am now rolling in wealth. Since there's nothing to spend it on, I'm not sure I'm a "winner" though; "more money in the bank" is about as useful as "more squirrels in my tree" unless I want to buy something.

Have been doing extra shifts at the hospital and planned trip to Uganda now rebooked for next year, so yes in theory am better off , am in little doubt that taxes will rise to pay for it all shortly. Would rather have less money and a return to normality.
