ok - I do realise that straighteners would be involved but boy wouldn't that be a task and a half every day and I never thought that you could get that "shiny" look.
There are lots of chemical straightening treatments around. My hair is curly and I used to get it straightened ever year when it grew out. I just use GHDs now though.
jenny -it is not needed to be done everyday -its permanent like a 'PERM' -like old women who get a perm to get curly hair -they don't need to do it every day.
oh - thanks APG - I really wouldn't have known that cos any friends I have that have curly hair, after they straightened it - a little bit of rain caused to go even more curlier.
Diana Ross and the like were doing it back in the 60s and 70s - chemical straightening of their hair.
Not particularly because they wanted their hair to look more 'European' and less 'African' but because the more 'European' they looked the more likely they were to be successful.
Dinah Washington did the same in the 1950s.
They definitely wore wigs but they also used chemicals to straighten their hair. I read a lengthy article about Ross many years ago where she mentioned it.
I worked with a couple of ladies whos hair was naturally frizzy but got fed up with the straighening process so opted for wigs, they were so realistic no one knew.
