Builder do you think this is great.

I went for my very first time on even touching a Clarinet yesterday and with all this craic around the emboucherie (sp) I was able to tune 5 notes.

Was that good or was the wee lad/teacher having me on.

I am spending a good hour on the YouTube on trying to form the proper embrocherie. And I think because I am not getting whistling or wailing and not a bad note - I may become like Acker Bilk.

Was 5 notes good Builder. Appreciate your opinion. Thanks

Tilly can you play clarinet
For the sake of anyone who doesn't know, embouchure is the term for the shape of your mouth and lips around the mouthpiece.

When you're starting, it's the hardest thing to learn. It takes a long time to fully develop. The good news is that you can actually start to make progress from the very start, as you've found out.

Yes.............. it's a very good start. I promise you... if you can get 5, then you can soon get the rest.
A lot of people give up because they can't get past the first squeaks.
I'm really pleased for you JJ.
This is really encouraging.
Has he given you exercises or maybe a practice routine?
I should have said... practice embouchure in front of a mirror (that's what I was told to do.)

Watch the corners of your mouth. make sure they turn up in a sort of "smile."

Builder. Cant get into your link
Glad I'm not Jennyjoan's next door neighbour;-)
That's not nice, Melv. It's funny but not nice. :-)
I bet she attracts the neighbourhood cats, tilly:-)
My friend was a full-time clarinet teacher. (I was best man at his wedding, where the bride and groom exited the church underneath an archway of raised clarinets, held aloft by his students).

I know that he would have been exceptionally happy if a new student of his could start to master their embouchure, and produce five notes, on their very first lesson.

Well done, Jennyjoan!
Chris.... Could you check my link please.
I reckon JJ just has to accept the cookies.
Thanks
It worked ok for me TB, just a long advert to scroll past.
