False Alarm!
2 Answers
I once managed to get fire engines from across two counties rushing to a railway siding (right next to an oil depot) when the only emergency was that a train driver had burnt the bacon on his portable stove but this, I think, goes one better ;-)

They were linked to the local fire station as well, so I got everyone to follow the correct procedure, evacuation, unlock fire hydrants, personnel check etc. When the senior fire officer arrived, he went ballistic, first at the security man on the gate, who wouldn't let them in because "I haven't been notified". Only when the officer threatened to ram the barrier did our "Frank" let them in. Then, when they found the cause of the alarm, he went even more ballistic. A unit had been parked next to a substation that had those vented doors. When the driver started the vehicle, all the diesel fumes poured into the, alarmed, substation and set all the alarms off. Not a happy chappy. He said if this happened again, the company would be fined £250. :o)
