...........homes and houses? The local council have said they are going to build a number of "homes" in the area. I would have thought they would be houses. Is it some sort of psychology, to make people think how nice and thoughtful they are? Any ideas?

Flats and bungalows are homes as well as houses.

Houses, bungalows, flats, one room student accommodation ..... homes.

Thanks for that but when applying for the required permission, don't they have to state what type of accomodation they are planning to build, rather than just "homes"?

Yes, when they are ready to mark out the land but at the early stage it's enough to say they are going to build and give a rough idea of the number of families that will be housed.

house   - - - is a machine for living in? ( Le corbusier I think)

what is wrong with dwelling unit?

Shack would be more accurate these days, assembled by cowboys and cretins.

A house is one of the places you can use to make a home.

A home can be something on wheels.

There was a prog on the West Highland Line railway. At Corrour station the interviewee said there were 2 hermits living in a nearby forest. One has built "several" log cabins, the other one lives in a tent. Just sayin'

dave are you thinking of Catherine Cookson's novel and drama made from "The Dwelling Place".  Great to see.

no - I have no knowledge of Ms Cookson's works.

Matera down by the heel of Italy had people living in caves from the stone age until just after WW2, when the government became embarrassed by the primitiveness and moved everyone into housing developments.

Now wouldn't you know it, they're luxury accommodations and the last 007 movie was filmed there.

Dave, Kinver rock houses where people were still living in the 60s?
