I asume the solstices are on the same day, just the other way round. ie shortest day 21st June, longest day 21st Dec. Anyone confirm?

yes - remember, we're on the same planet; the reason London gets least sun on Dec 21 is because Sydney is simultaneously getting most of it, and vice versa.
