Hi everyone, Does anybody know how Bread and Cheese Hill in Thundersley Essex and/or the pub, got it's name ?

I live a few miles from that spot. One theory I remember hearing is that during the Peasant's Revolt in the 14th century there was a checkpoint on that hill to catch Flemish workers who they thought were taking their jobs.


To pass the checkpoint the password was 'bread and cheese' which Flemish people had trouble pronouncing.
