Who used to come out with this years ago. Seem to remember a Liverpool accent. Ken Dodd maybe?

You're correct. It was Doddy. He recorded the novelty record,"Where's Me Shirt" in 1965.

Before Ken Dodd there was a radio programme starring Jimmy Clitheroe . May have been the Clitheroe Kid . This was one of his sayings
I have a vague recollection of Stan Boardman saying something along those lines in his routine

This phrase was also used by Albert Steptoe in Steptoe & Son.


Definitely from the radio show The Clitheroe Kid, starring comedian Jimmy Clitheroe, that ran from 1957 to 1972. Ken Dodd and the others were much later.
