I got into a lot of debt and changed my name legally at a solicitors office, 2 yrs later i met a person and we married but i married her in the name previous to changing it. IE Born Mr smith changed my name to Mr brown but never used Mr Brown when i got married afterwards, reverted back to birth name but never informed female or officials of it. we are now divorced but would like to know!!

My knowledge may be a bit uncertain on this one, but the test of whether a marriage took place is if you went through a marriage ceremony. If you were the person who went through the ceremony, the marriage is valid even if you said your name was Mickey Mouse (assuming that it isn't).

Now for the uncertain bit. I don't know what could happen about going through a marriage ceremony under a false name.

I thought you could legally call yourself any name.
