Why shouldn't Elizabeth 1st Win? Because of the nambypamby Diana camp? or the Blinkered propaganda'd Churchill camp? or the Blind 'em with science (Physics) Brunel camp?

However, most of the people in the top 10 deserved it. Brunel was a great engineer, and it's nice to see engineers being appreciated for once. We've got some of the best in the world, and it's about time they got a little respect. Churchill was a deserving winner, without his leadership we would be living in a very different (i.e. worse) world. I also think that we would be living in a poorer world if it wasn't for the likes of Newton and Darwin, trying to explain the world around us and beyond. I think I'm forgetting someone else I consider important, but my point is that they are all great in different ways, and while everyone had they're favourites I think it's important to remember the achievements of the others.
