Braunstone gate is your best best, very nice bars and a good crown of people, its not directly in the city centre but still has the best places around (i.e no chavs or kids) Head for O bar, sumo, Looking glass or loaf. Good places to eat down there too.
If you wanted to hit the centre I would say head for belvoir street, a much "classier" area if indeed I can use that word at all to describe leicester. There are some nice bars down there, Fat Cats, The Terrace, Miteesh (if you like footballers). You could also head down towards New walk to Nomad or original four. On high street there is an orange tree which serves great cocktails and has a very relaxed atmosphere. Nearby there is a nice champange bar too. Whatever you do, do not go near churchgate! It will make you cry its so horrific. Oh and avoid the clubs like the plague.
Hope this gets you started! Have a great night!
