I sometimes see women commuting to work with really small bags and it makes me wonder how on earth they can survive with taking so little out with them!

I carry my purse, keys, lipsalve, handbag mirror, tissues, comb, mobile phone, train ticket, swipe card for work, glasses case, small umbrella and my diary. All that completely fills my bag, so there is no room for my book or my lunch, so I invariable end up taking them in a Next bag or something!

What do you carry around with you and how big a bag do you need?

My bag's quite small. I just have my phone, purse, swipe card, vaseline, lip gloss, powder, bronzer, concealer, comb, mints, keys, perfume, hair bobble and a kirby.

Bring my lunch in a bag (i use those nice wee gift bags people give you).

My bag is huge. It needs to be! I have all of the above plus my diary, a book (in case I get bored), and all current / ongoing correspondance! In fact, its more like a mobile filing cabinet. Thinking about using one of those bags on little wheels....
I know, my make up bag alone is the size of a small handbag!!! i dont get it..even worse...there are women out there who dont carry a handbag!!!!!!!!!!!!! what is that about!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yes, I'd forgotten about ongoing correspondence! This morning I had to bring a letter from my mortgage company with me as I had a query to raise with them.

My husband laughs at what I carry around with me, but doesn't complain when we're out and about and asks me to look after his phone/MP3 player etc!

Us blokes manage without a bag at all. If it don't go in a pocket we don't carry it!
Although there are a couple of guys here with "man bags"

I seriously regret the fact that 'man bags' never caught on here like they have in Europe, but men are far more sure of their sexuality over there! I do carry a large cavas satchel, because I carry my tape machine, cassetees, batteries, notebooks, diary, and loads of freelance bits and bobs - my phone I keep in my pocket.

All my girls carry bags you could carry the contents of a village library in - apparently the fashion is now for really big bags.

Karen2005 I have tried so many times to use a small bag, but I just can't do it!!

Looked in my bag just now, apart from the usual stuff phone, purse, folding brush, brolly, tissues, lipsalve and diary also found 3 pens (with no lids on) a half bottle of antibiotics, I stopped taking weeks ago, half a small forest of shopping receipts, a tub of tiger balm, part of a bathroom tile!, a dog poop bag and the obligatory fluff covered loose Tic Tac.

What are you talking about Andy? Just because we don't generally have handbags doesn't make any statement about sexuality, any chance to slag off British blokes eh?
Kazminx, as a mostly non bag carrier I will share with you what it's all about ...... not puting my back out or getting a hernia carrying ALL the rot for the four other members of my family. (If I have had a disaggrement with Mr Sense I put some emergency money, a credit card and a single thin car key in my pocket.) tee hee!
* putting - sorry!
Sorry to let the side down girlies - I have a phone on a ribbon round my neck and money in my jeans. Car keys hooked on the belt loop of said jeans, although I do have a door key on my phone ribbon for when I don't take the car.
I use a mans handbag aswell

I don't even own a handbag.

When I go to work I got my diary, phone and possibly lunch in a small leather rucksack.

My wallet (plus maybe some tissues and a pen) which is all I need when going out in my spare time I usually have in my coat pocket.

And keys (in coat pocket), too!
everything but the kitchen sink.
Too much!

My mum had a huge handbag which she carried everywhere, which was full of tissues, pens, a diary, receipts, cheque book etc and when I was a kid, I always said to her I would NEVER use a handbag as you don't need to carry around all that junk, but now I'm a bit older (23) I also now carry a bag full of crap I don't really need!

I once listed 34 items in my bag...and now I have a bigger bag so I'm sure there are more things in it!

I am watching (& teasing) my daughter in law who is gradually increasing the size of her handbags ....won't be long before I've graduated to a tartan shopper I expect :o)

Due to a problem with my back and needing to 'travel light' I nowadays often go out without a bag. It feels just great, especially in the evenings and I don't have to make sure it in a safe place etc. My money goes in a pocket (or my husbands) and as I only use my mobile for essential calls, or emergencies it stays hidden in the car!! Life is much better with the clutter I used to carry around everywhere. I probably didn't ever need most of the stuff that I kept in it anyway.
