I dont know about making you posh, but I am sure that eating together as a family unit helps to reinforce family bonds which can only be a good thing.

When I was a kid our dad forced us to eat at the table because he considered it the correct thing to do. We all sat there sullenly chewing in silence like the dysfunctional gits we were. It was torture.

Now I have my own kids we all eat at the table and it's a pleasure. We talk, laugh and behave like human beings. On the whole I would recommend it.

we're certainly not posh, but we always eat at the tabel together. I did this with my parents and brother when I lvied at home, and do it now I've my own family. It's a family time, to chat and laugh and catch up on everyone's day and all the news. I think it's a great thing to do.

We all eat at the dining room table too and we're not posh at all.
I think I've missed the question, where else would you eat your dinner?
Well it beats eating it off the floor! Where else can you enjoy a meal in comfort with everything to hand. Only slobs eat off their laps.
I always used to when I was a child. Now, i don't even have a dining table in my house! We always eat off either the coffeee table or our our laps.

We usually eat at the kitchen table when we are all together. Its a nice big old table and I feel more comfortable there than eating in the dining room. I'm afraid it's laps (yes I'm a slob) most evenings because strange working hours mean we can rarely eat together and eating all by myself at the table is miserable.

When our girls were living at home, we always sat at the dining table & chatted about the day whilst we ate. I don't think it's posh, but just nice to be together as a family. We still do the same when we have visitors.

If it's just the two of us, we sometimes eat at the table, or I eat from a tray on my lap on the sofa (another slob gessoo). Mr Smudge is a bit more reserved & puts his tray on one of the nest of tables & eats from there!

Oh yes, Smudge, we always eat at the table when we have visitors and we even use cutlery on these occasions instead of our fingers ;o)

Have a good weekend. Hope you are feeling better. My back is improving and I'm even managing fairly long walks again. (Sorry about the thread hijack JenniferG)

Ha, ha, we usually only use cutlery when we have visitors too Gessoo! I'm not too keen on stting at the table when there's just the two of us - I feel like we're a couple of book ends sitting end to end!

Thank you for your good wishes. It's been a very difficult time for me just lately, but I'm gradually getting there.

I'm glad your back is improving & that you're managing to get out & about. Walking is so good for body & mind. Have a nice relaxing weekend too.

Sorry Jennifer - hope you don't mind!

P.S. I was going to bed 2 hours ago, but rec'd a surprise email from another old school friend from 1962 via F/R & we've been on msn!
I eat at dining room table when I have Sunday lunch with my parents...but I eat with my hands...what does that make me ?
I'm not posh, (anything but!) always eat at the kitchen table and wouldn't even think of eating off my lap.
We used to have a lounge diner and we always ate at the table. Since moving and now have a seperate dining room, we don't use it at all which I feel is a shame. The meal seems to be taken too much for granted when eaten in front of the tv. A lot of effort goes into preparing a meal and sitting at the table having a chat makes it worthwhile.
I wouldn't say it was posh - but it is civilised!
