Can anyone tell me how to factorize


x2-7x+10

I guess it's x^2-7x+10


Then you use the 'midnight formula':


[ x^2+ax+b => x=a/2+-(square root of)(a^2/4-b) ]


x=7/2+-(square root of)(49/4-10)
=7/2+-(square root of)(9/4)
=7/2+-3/2


So you get two solutions 5 and 2 and therefore factorized:


(x-5)(x-2)

For an eqn like this you can try out values in your head. eg. the last number must be a mutliple of the non x terms in the answer. 10 is divisble by itself and 1 and also 2 & 5. 2 & 5 or 1 & 10 must make up the middle term in the eqn. Since only 2& 5 can do this, they must be the solutions. As shown below by Gef.
