Why do men lie?

Before anyone asks no im not posting this because i feel bitter. Im honestly just curious. Men treat woman all nice and everything then BAM, they lie! Why cant men just be upfront?

i agree msbehave i havent met any man who hasnt lied....my brother even lies to his wife about smoking!!! i think it is built into their genes!!

anyone who says they don't lie, usually do, just by saying that. everyone at some time has told a lie, even if it's a little white lie. i'm not whiter than white i've told a few. but i believe when it comes down to very important and serious matters the truth is always the best policy. either to protect others from a more hurtful truth or to protect themselves from being hurt. unfornately thats human nature. always take things with a pinch of salt and never be to quick to believe, especialy with someone new in your life. take time to get to know the person inside out. i know this sounds a bit bleak but thats how you find life.

it also goes swings and roundabouts, women are just as guilty as men at times, it just comes down to individuals who can either be total rotters or saints.

in life you will meet good honest people as much as you will meet fake people.

I'm not sure I agree that all men lie. Sure, I've dated plenty of guys who have lied to me. I usually put it down to them expecting me to nag or scold or something, even though I consider myself a very chilled out person who doesn't react in that way. Or maybe I questioned too much? Everyone needs their space and these days I'm so relaxed I'm virtually horizontal! My current boyfriend has had no reason to lie so far, but then he is really freaked out at how insightful I am (I even had a dream that he did something once. When I asked him if he did he admitted it, in grave shock!!).

I think they start off with a lie because they think the truth would get them in trouble, then they just keep digging a bigger hole from there. When the truth would have been fine in the first place.

Why cant women just treat people as individuals rather than make sweeping generalisations based on patchy personal experiences that they can�t get over / forget about.

I think its unfair to make such a sweeping statement. I don't think it is a trait purely attributed to the male species. In any case, some men lie and some men don't, as do women, in my experience! Maybe you're just meeting the wrong ones MsBehave :-)

Actually wilsonater i'm a girl and I agree with that. we do tend to just believe what we want to anyway, so it really wouldnt matter if we get the truth or not :-)
