It has pie and peas in the pubs, but I would say no its far from it and you sound like you have never left the place

My Yorkshire-born friends think it IS the greatest place and say so outspokenly. They don't like the South of England (Kent, etc.) at all, even though they mostly live in the South now!
I guess it is a nostalgia thing.
I duno about that, I quite like Buckinghamshire. After all, it has the best links to major towns and cities (so you can get the hell out of the place).

I am from Yorkshire and I will still say its not.

Thats because I have been outside of the UK

Sorry fair play wilsonator its not the best in the world but within the UK?
If it had the weather...quite possibly
I have only been 3 or 4 times but i fell in love with it. Give me the North over the South anyday!!!! If i could, i would love to live in yourkshire, not sure where though!

unruliejulie, have you not been to west yorks? its great! Although i am biased i live here.
*Yorkshire*
i've been to Whitby (my absolute Fave) Scarborough, Filey and York. I found the people delightful, most friendly. I live in the Midlands(Leicester) btw. I know they're more your holiday places but i'd love to see more of it like the yorkshire dales etc....
Am I missing something?? Although Yorkshire has beautiful places and it's share of lovely people (as other areas of the UK) I lived in west Torkshire for a number of years and have never been surrounded by more narrow minded people with a very bleak view of minorities. Although the scenery is magnificent in places, does this qualify it 'the greatest place in the UK'? I think not.
Question Author

wo charliebaps, what do you mean narrow minded?

Iv lived here all my life and think were some of the friendliest people around.

Where in w.yorks did you live

Narrow minded doesn't mean they can't be friendly. I had lots of lovely encounters in the Hudds area and beyond but found a majority of people (not everyone!) very opinionated about issues and politics but had never ventured further than Leeds.

No offence Homer55 just saying that other areas in the UK are lovely and with people that have experienced other areas to compare with.

Not to live. But certainly to play.

Hope north yorkshire is nice cos i'm there in june for few days!
Yorkshire is Fab! although i'm not "narrow - minded" and agree that other areas of the country/world are just as good if not better! Where you from Homer55? I'm from West Yorkshire, and have ventured further than Leeds, and have to say charliebaps that being opinionated and narrow minded doesn't just stem from us you know...!!
I didn't say it did

I am from the south, born in bedfordshire to a father from london and a mother from Bradford. My maternal grandparents and family were all Yorkshire folk.

I talk 'northern', always say bath and grass without the 'r' sound :) I love Yorkshire's countryside and the Yorkshire people are lovely. A friend and I stayed in York a few years back and it was great to go to a local pub and not feel like evryone was staring. We enjoyed a lovely evening and the elder gentlemen even saw us home safely to our hotel at the end of the eve. I have to say thats not something that would happen in my town.

As for greatest place on earth, i have to say no, but parts of it are wonderful.

Sadly, you're confusing Yorkshire with Scotland! ;-)
