the local place is cheadle, it is very much a interbreeding centre and full of red necks!
the nearest city is stoke, about 10 miles or so, they have some great pubs, clubs, theaters and so on!!
ps....my mate went on the charlie ride the other week, he didnt rate it much, but the water hotel looks ace!!
As rugeleyboy advises, they play down the fact that Alton Towers is literally in the middle of nowhere. It is right out in the Staffordshire countryside - if you are travelling by car, set out early, because once the coaches arrive abd block up the narrow lanes, you can queue for hours. Aim to get there for about 9.30 in the morning, it's worth waiting until they open to beat the crowds.
Cheadle is the nearest large village, but head for Stoke (specifically Hanley which is the actual centre) and there is plenty going on there.
I've been today - definately steer clear of the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ride, absolute rubbish unless you've got small children!
As has already been said, it is in the middle of nowhere, Stoke on Trent is your nearest place for a decent night out. I live in Hanley and it took me 30-45 mins to get there today but that really is your best bet for nightlife. As far as I know, there are no nightclubs in Cheadle, just 'local pubs' and no bars as such.
Oh and it will cost you a fortune in a taxi, someone will have to drive!
