to make the long story short, my ex-freind, who only had a permit, drove right into another person the other day, and was hit from behind from another. i blacked out and didnt see the accident coming, but there was six of us in the car, and i was the only one with the license. after the crash, everyone told me to take the blame, but i was the only person "of age" in the car, and wasnt about to take the blame for something i didnt do, so i left.now the driver is threatening me, but i dont want to get involved. what should i do? will i get in trouble?

Dont take the blame for something you didnt do!!
you won't get in any trouble if you tell the truth - these people in the car must be mad if they think that you are going to get a criminal conviction and insurance problems so that they can get off scott free - they are taking you for a mug, looks like you will have to ignore them and find some new mates (and don't get in cars with people that can't drive etc)

don't lie for them - they wouldn't do it for you... if they keep threatening you go to the police and explain what happened
Thye sooner you give your honest account to the police the easier it will be to deal with it. They can't be good friends if they're threatening you in order to get you to pervert the course of justice!

who owns the car?

whether you have a license or not, if you are not insured to drive that particular car you would be in trouble for that anyway, as will they for letting you drive their car, so if you take the blame they will still be in trouble either way.

also 6 people in a car is illegal, and they will be in trouble for that too.

keep away and let the idiot driver take the consequences for driving illegally, being underage and being total pratt.

also, why would you get in a car with someone who cannot drive and is underage when you yourself have a license? were you drunk?

you cannot now change your statement either and claim to have been driving - that would be suspicious.

if you left before the police came i would contact them to make sure your 'mates' didn't give your name in instead of theirs.

Don't take the blame, ring the police and tell them what happened.

As for overloading a car don't ever ever do it! I live ten mins from the Eastern Bypass in Oxford where, last year, an overloaded car crashed and killed three 13 year olds and a 21 year old. Things might have been different had the car been carrying the right amount of people.

That is assuming the car was overloaded - is this why it was was mentioned in the question? There are many cars with 6 or more seats - my Landrover has 11!

I suspect that may be a side issue here

Who owned the car? did they give permission for it to be driven?

There's a relatively new offence of allowing a vehicle to be driven without insurance. The car owner is likely to be in trouble if it was taken with consent and you're all likely to be in trouble if it was without consent.

If you lie to the Police about what happened you could be charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

In either case it sounds as if you left the site of an accident, although you weren't driving that could still be a problem - I'm not expert enough to say.

I'd strongly advise you to get some professional advice, probably a citizens' advice bureau.

if you mean will u get in trouble legally, then no u won't. and as far as the driver threatening you, if it were me i'd say bring the **** on biotch! but thats just me. if u dont want to get involved, just ignore him/her. they cant get u in trouble. they just dont want to have to deal with being in trouble themselves. but in my opinion they should have thought of that sooner, dont ya think?
