4 Answers
Some friends of mine just found out there having a baby. And I found out that im in the running to be the god parent. Now I know this is a grate honor but im not Christian im Wiccan. Even thow I was rased and baptized catholic , I converted to paganism when I was 18. And I don't know what to think about being god parent to this child if they ask me. In a way I want to a lot because I love my friends and want to be there for them and there famley in anyway I can. But than agin it just seems odd in some way. Can you all give me your thoughts on the matter?

The role of the god-parent is also ensuring the child is raised in a Christian way, supporting and guiding the journey through life within the concept of the Church.
As the Christening is taking place in a Christian church then I don't believe you should be god-parent.
You can be a sponsor - the vicar will ask who will sponsor this child and quite clearly you are ideal. Within the family you can have whatever title you are all comfortable with.

I'm with Ethel, the sole purpose of a Godparent is to help the child in it's Christian life. I don't think the priest/vicar would be too happy about a pagan being a godparent. But that being said almost all of my friends who have baptised their children have never set foot in a church again so it is very superficial, if this was the case with your friends then I don't suppose it would matter a jot what you are.
