Is it only me who finds the huge green mounds of phlem hacked up on the streets utterly disgusting? Am I being old fashioned when I say I think its so rude and disgusting?

It is and you're not. It's like litter throwing - I always hated it even as a kid. In both cases I think you'll find the rocket scientists responsible are the type who would claim it didn't matter, since the place was a dump anyway...

Its not a pc thing to say but if i caught one of my (as yet unconceived) kids doing it they'd get a slapped face.

You should go to China.... it's their national sport, makes everywhere else pale into insignificance in the spitting stakes, or better still travel in a hard sleeper for 16 hours, bottom bunk and spend the night listening to the bunks above you hawk the contents of their lungs onto the floor next to you! That's disgusting! (excuse me if you are in China and that is what you're refering to!)

Yes, it is disgusting. Today, in fact, I was walking along the road, and this 'man' was coming towards me, and I could see and hear him hawking up. I thought oh no, he's going to spit on the ground right in front of me but, instead, he did the decent thing. He spat into the rubbish bin he had just passed! How considerate! Yuk.

I remember when I was a little kid (mid-sixties) when my Aunty Joice took me and my two sisters to the pictures.

As we were walking home in the dark we came to an alleyway which led onto "the old bridge."

Suddenly, my auntie bent down to pick up a half-crown she'd seen glinting in the moonlight, only to discover it was the shining contents of someone's nasal passage!!! Disgusting!!!

If there's one thing guaranteed to make me gag, this is it. I feel sick for ages after spotting one! So revolting. I agree with Comloulou, that it does seem worse to see girls doing it. We have a gang of teenagers who hang around outside the local shop and they're constantly at it, so we have to dodge around it as we enter the shop...Eeeuuuurrrggh!!

It is disgusting! I think professional footballers are partly to blame for making it "cool" to spit. Impressionable kids see their "heros" doing it and so copy the filthy habit.

I agree it is utterly disgusting. Clearly such people think it is 'unmanly' to blow their nose into a hanky.
