helicopter search lights...

there was a helicopter going over knaresborough in north yorkshire last night at about 12/1am for over an hour with a searchlight, any ideas what it was looking for? it kept switching it off and then just hovering.

We have them over us most weekends. It could be the police looking for car thiefs or criminals or it may be the army on training exercises.

Yep, we get 'em too. They're usually monitoring car chases and the like, or occasionally tracking a burglar (playing field and three large school fields nearby, so plenty of opportunity).

You get used to it.

We get them but it's usually air sea rescue.

Small world eh? A friend was woken up by the helicopter searching, apprantly a lady near where she lives has gone missing. The police have been going from door to door also.
Hope she turns up safe.

Yeah, I don't know any details about the lady tho, just that everybody is saying that is why the police helicopter was flying about and that they were still looking for her.

Incredible to think that all this time there has been another Knaresborian on here lol

I`m sure you can check on your local county police website, they usually list why the helicopter has been sent out. Its worth a try.

I don't think they have released that information yet, they only named her at lunchtime.

I heard on the radio they were still trying to contact her relatives, but that was before lunch so there maybe more news now.
