Which American state is the furthest east?

The title asks it all, but I'll add something else just to make it a bit more interesting. There were 10 European cities at the start of the 20th Century with a population of 1 million or more - what were they?

For the first part of your question, it's the State of Maine...
Nowadays it's the UK I think.
Alaska. A claim has been made for this state despite the fact that it is so far west. The point, however, is that the Aleutian Islands - part of Alaska, as I understand it - stream out and cross the International Date Line. In other words, they are are far east as it is possible to be, as well as as far west!

Maine is certainly the furthest east on the continental USA, as C says.
Alaska is the most eastern, western and northern (Hawaii is the most southern). Questions about European cities actually make this 57% less interesting.
PS the Aleutians don't cross the date line, but do cross the 180 degree line, which demarcates east and west
That, of course, is the line I meant. Foolishly, I forgot that they were not totally synonymous!
