I love most accents -especially geordie, southern, irish, Australian but ONE accent i absolutely detest, is YORKIE......thee, thy, arn (meaning ours), yourn (meaning yours) etc. Anyone agree n wots your fave/most detested accent....
Actually, TWO - cos i don't much like Yank either....no offence!! - n I'm not being racist........
Is that electric being gobby again - just cos she's been to the dentist lol How are you blue? Hope your feeling better - did you see bobby sent a message?
Sorry angeldraws,
I hope this one doesn't escalate like the one t'other week ho ho...
Can't say I agree with you, I love all the different dialects but my favourite is geordie - I could listen to that all day!!
i,ve got a northern accent which some class as geordie, the accents i like are scots irish yorkshire, and the one i dont like is brrumie sorry to any brumies abs out there
well ray i love all that up the stairs pears and rosie lee tea my fav cockneys have to be them lovley lads from nelson mandella house dell and rodders brill are you a bit like them ray?
The one accent that I hate more than any other is South African. However, my boyfriend is South African, but I'm gradually beating it out of him, he almost sounds Southern England like me now.
I'm orf down the rubadub for a pigs ear, me ole plates of meat are givin me gyp somink cronic, me saucepan lids, hav gorn out, right pain in the bottle & glass, can't find me gregory pecks and me barnets a right two & eight, xx
My favourite, especially when coming from an attractive young lady, would have to be either Eastern Scotland or Southern Ireland.
My least favourite is again a two-horse race - either Estuary English or (controversial choice, this) Scouse. Contrary to popular belief, having a Scouse accent does not automatically make you hilariously funny.
Nowt wrong with proper lankie and yorkie accents, what I don't like is the Manc accent,it sounds like poor mans cockney. Either sticking a 'f' instead of a 'th' as in fings,or a 'v' Instead of 'th' as in 'wiv .
I'm with Rock'n'Roll in hating the Manc accent, but that's because I'm a biased Scouser! Scouse can be harsh and even I wince when I hear some scally, so in a way I can understand where you're coming from, littleoldme! We're not all cheeky shoplifters!
Accents I DO love are Geordie, Scottish, soft Welsh and, of course, Irish (who doesn't?!!). And I guess I should say Yorkshire too, as my girlfriends from Sheffield!
Not big on Laaahndaaaahn accents and only really broad Brum!
For sheer ear annoyance, it's got to be the brummie one - I can't stand it. On the other hand, I love the Geordie one. I divna nae wot they're saying mine pet.
The Brummie has got to be the worst, what's the difference between a buffalo and a Bison? Can't wash your hand in a buffalo! OK I'm off for a Copper Tie.
Being from sowwf eeast lundun............... Actually, I don't speak like that all the time (although can sound like Kathy Burke in times of anger/frustration/excitement) I did understand every word of raysparx1 rhyming slang. My fave accent is Geordie.
On a separate note, when the original Taggart was on (Mick McManus?) I had to have the subtitles on because I couldn't understand the Glasgow accent. Also applied to Rab C Nesbitt.
Well despite my user name, I'm originally from Yorkshire. That is my least favourite accent! Especially the very strong ones, even I don't understand them. I'm not a big fan of West Country accents either.
My favourite is the Manc accent, although not the rough one like Liam Gallaghers. More of a softer warmer version like Max Beesley's!
Ed - that is so funny about Rab C Nesbitt n Taggart!!
I notice noone mentions Devon, Cornwall accents: oi cart read, oi cart write, oi can droive a tractooooorrrrrr!!! ooh arrr keep eatin them there carrots.......
