I was thinking if there was going to be a London meetup for all the answer bankers this summer? If not, is anybody up for one? I was kind of thinking like meeting up in hyde park or somewhere for like a picnic.............

Judging by the response to the last get together of site users Hyde Park might be a little on the big side. You may find that there will not be a great deal of interest.
What's the point?
why? to ask each other questions? :) :) :) London is a bit expensive to travel to for some.
Ah Crowdpleeser you've just walked into a minefield my friend....as one of the (more than 3) who turned up to the last meeting of visitor to the site just let's say that the idea was shot down in flames by naysayer's like OnlyMe and people who thought that it was being held for other reasons like the first poster who I think it's fair to say is another user hiding their identity.........I would be up for it if time and finances allowed as the last one was fun despite the efforts of some to ruin it.
london quite easy for me, everywhere is too expensive for someone, i think that a small pub would probably do. how will we know each other? are we all going to have to wear yellow carnations in our lapels or something. i have reservations about meeting up with people i only know online, but i would be interested in putting faces to names of the regular answerers.
If there has been similar meetings in the past can someone tell us how successful they have been. What did you do. What did you talk about. How many people normally attend these gatherings. Are there any published agendas and minutes that we can read. ???
Sounds like an interesting idea. Like Ulrika I would appreciate some details about previous events.
Apparently the last meeting / convention in Glasgow was a roaring success. There were a huge number of people there (exact numbers still to be confirmed) and they were all happy to come on to the answerbank after the great event and tell everyone this. For your benefit Ulrika, there were 3 people at the glasgow get together, but those that did go seemed to have a good time, despite their dishonest account afterwards. As you can probably tell, I wont be going to any get-together. As much as I enjoy the site I have no desire to meet anyone else on here (no offence). I prefer it that way. But a meetup or convention or whatever you want to call it may suit others and I wouldn't critisise anyone for doing so. Just don't be dissapointed if it isn't as great as you think, the last lot who tried it seemed a bit let down by others who promised to go and never appeared, and they ended up quite bitter about the whole thing.
J3sus wept how many times do you idiots have to be told....You weren't there so how could you possibly know how many people attended the little bash that we had....those that were there all agreed that we wouldn't give the like of fakey et al the satisfaction of knowing exact numbers and what we got up to so it's amusing that you all labour under the wrong impression that there were only 3 people there.....I'm sure if you check back on previous posting that there has been more than that who have said they were there.......I'm not bitter about the people who didn't turn up (each to their own) but it's the ones who seem to gloat over it afterwards.

Anyway FYI all we did was sit around and have a drink, a chat and sl@g off the wierdo's on the site we didn't like :>) nothing as formal as minutes or agendas it was purely a fun gathering.

IF anyone does want to meet up at some point then let us know but remember for every three that say they will turn up only one will go so if it's going to go ahead I would suggest a minimum amount of say 20 for it to go ahead?

hyde park a bit over zealous maybe the phonebox at hyde park; Right, i set up a meetgroup for AB folk last November where you can email each other and swap photos, chat etc.. a sort of vitual convention; the response, not earth shattering membership was 34 since a cleanup of nonactive user we're down to 16 and it's pretty quiet But, if you want to freely join the group and virtually meet others go here..
http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/answerbok/ come and meet some die hard regulars - real time but no physical contact.. we've exchanged 800 messages and some have photo albums sometimes we chat through Yahoo Instant Messenger several email me on a regular.. so come and have an aperitif why dontcha? :-)
sft42, don't call anyone an idiot. Maybe next time you have a convention I will go, just so that I can knock the hell out of you. For your information my brother works in Arta. On the night of the convention I gave him a lift to work, hence the reason that I can be sure that he was there. I told him to have a look for you lot and he did. Anyway, like I said, you are still bitter about the whole affair, I wont be mentioning it again.
lmao, what a friendly group of people answerbank answerers are, i can't wait to meet you all, there's nothing left to do but set a date, do you think dale and nell might be guests of honour?
Forgive my ignorance but I can't understand why, if Answerbank organises a convention, there is apparent bickering about it and no published information. Will someone please offer me some details.
Just to let you know Templeman that its not really AB that organise any 'meet ups'. Its just a case of people suggesting that as we all spend time on this site and seem to 'know' regular users, then why not meet up to put faces to names and chat in person - all informal and friendly.
Thanks Lennon but I'm still having trouble with details of previous meetings. There seems to be some very difficult-to-interpret answers above. How popular are these get togethers? What are the attendance figures like at most meetings?
What's with the yahoo ego trip for the few who think that they should be granted site ownership? Anybody had a peek and decided that it's not for them?
perhaps not for you then, 3s_a_crowd, no strings at 'bok just a free exchange for simple souls - a rarity indeed.. all welcome to apply; ego trip? for an 'apply gate'? we're not the blimming AB SAS MIT! just a weary group of people, waiting for the world to end :-)
yeah, not totally relevant crowdpleeser, sorry for hijacking thread. :-)
Question Author
well to be totally honest, as long as sft42 is there and we can chat guitar,I'll be happy. I'm not really bothered about numbers etc. So shall we set a date?
Bearing in mind how unpleasant some of the threads regarding the Glasgow 'Convention' became, and the unpleasant, petty, personal tone of some of the answers already on this thread, please remember:

- personal abuse is not tolerated.

- if you don't want to meet people, by all means let us all know, but don't then abuse those who do;

- if you do want to meet people, by all means let us all know, but don't then abuse those who don't;

- any meetup will NOT be sanctioned or organised by TheAnswerbank.

Have a good summer.
