answerbok - two I only wear them on very rare occasions like the wedding/chistening of very close friends or funerals of special relatives. I think they're a pain to put on and they get in the way. Andy - if you dress you like you've come in your day off... what?

Paulz - I meant that if you dress like you've come in on your day off - you get treated like that. For me, and I suspect others who have contributed to this thread, it's more about how the individual feels, rather than necessarily the perception of him by others - it's just a personal choice. I used to wear casual clothes, but switched to shirt and tie on my 40th birthday (dignity of age or something!) and haven't felt the urge to chnage back.

I don't own a single tie and hope to land a job where I don't have to wear one. I used to have to wear one working at Toys "R" Us and that was enough for one lifetime. My Dad wears them to work and when I picture him all I really see is the tie. Blow me if that's the way I won't my future offspring to see me :)
About 30. I like wearing them as a way of self-expression (especially the multi-coloured bright ones). They do occasionally get in the way, but not oo much. The main disadvantage is that I have sometimes been approached and spoken to by complete strangers in shops who seem to assume that I'm a member of staff, just because I'm wearing a tie.
