My 'Suit Rental' question before reminded me of something i've always wondered. In any special occasions (wedding being the best example) why do women go out and buy a hugely expensive dress, only to wear it once, whereas guys get to rent suits. I know dress rental for women is hard because they want it to fit perefectly, but why? Maybe women just love the whole shopping thing, and its any excuse really :oP

I'm always reminded of items on dieting on shows such as This Morning when they say "And the great thing about losing weight is you get to buy a whole new wardrobe!" - which to me sounds like a disadvantage. Just blame my Y Chromosone.
Dodgy, its a mystery to me too, I'd rather go to the dentist's try this previous answer question 29269

for me the shoes are the most important part i decide the outfit according to what shoes i want to wear. getting back to the point, it's easy for blokes as essentially you just wear the same thing, it's almost a uniform, and alot of men (obviously not the ones here) are very quick to point out of a lady is looking a little below her best, so there is more pressure on women to look good than there is on men and for me on particularly hormonal / fat / bad hair / bad skin days you need the price tag to prove to yourself you've made enough effort :-)
Treacle - I agree with you, but often the worst culprits are the fairer sex, especially if [in their opinion] they think someone's wearing something too long/short/loose/tight/too old/too young. I guess I'm like most blokes ideal is a short skirt stockings & high heels, they may well be a pain to wear but boy do they show your body off to its best. Having said that on the school run this morning I saw this woman - with a pushchair & 5 kids in tow - not by any means an unattractive person, but her skirt was so short you could actually see her knickers as she was walking along. Coupled with the fact she was wearing lace up boots and black socks! Perhaps that's a fashion statement. I don't know. I also reckon that if as the wearer of whatever you're confident in [a] what you have on & [b] yourself you can carry anything off. I take your point about you always have to look your best [or at least feel you do] and sometimes you don't always want to. Us blokes can go into the office without having had a shave or shower [ugh!]. I try to abide by what ny gran said, "If you can't say something nice, shut the f*ck up" Cheers xxx ;+)
I've wondered it too. It is an expectation thing. And I'm not blaming the blokes here - like everything to do with a woman's looks it is peer pressure. Every girl has a beautiful wedding dress, a perfect fit etc. so you have to too. Keeping up with the Joneses if you will. Not that men aren't succumbing to it now. With magazines like Men's Health etc. more men are working on those muscles, tans and skin.
