somewhere nice to live

Me and my hubby are going to buy our own house soon, we want to go to Northampton (that's where his work is). Pretty please can anyone give us some pointers as to the places to avoid, nice estates and roads in Northampton and nice villages around the town.

I live in West Haddon, about 8 miles west of N'pton. There are loads of villages around the area and most have some sort of development going on. In N'pton itself, places to avoid are the Eastern expansion area (Billing, Southfields, Rectory Fm etc) and East and West Hunsbury and Briar Hill, as these are all massive estates. There is a new estate currently being built at Upton (between n'pton and J15A) and this will be ongoing for 10 or more years. Also it is heading closer to the flood plain of the Nene, so beware! I am involved in construction in the area, so if it is a new build property you find I might be able to advise you a bit, but if you can afford it I would definately try and get out of town into one of the suurounding villages. As I say, there are loads, so I'm afraid you are going to have to slog round the estate agents! Where is hubby going to work? This may influence the best place to live ,as the traffic is a nightmare at morning rush and you want to avoid crossing town.

hubby is working on small industrial estate next to grange park, is that new development by J15?
I have seen that but I don't fancy it. I think a village would be cool.

Yes, that's it, Don't blame you helly. I think that will be a right ghetto in a few years!! OK, for that side of town you could try Roade, Blisworth, Collingtree, Stoke Bruerne etc. or you could head out east toward Hackleton, Horton and Denton. There are some new developments in Olney and that would only be about a 25 min commute to J15. All nice villages, though I can't think of new developments in the others at the moment. I think, like I said before, that you are going to have to do some foot slogging. If you want to know anything else about the area, drop another note on the AB boards.
