Rap music
I'm 21 and I was woundering why the media is makeing it look like it is "cool" to listen to rap music and to dress and act like them? I mean why would they want to do that since everyone can see that the music is degradeing to women and its all about selling drugs and gangs and shoting eachother. It seems to me that rap music it portraying the wronge image to kids. Its like they are wanting more gangs, drugs and violence by makeing the rap seen look so "cool". I'm not trying to say its all bad because I listen to some of it myself. They just seem to being trying brain wash kids into think that its cool to do the things they rap about. Which its not because I see more and more people getting shot everyday and more drugs being sold on the streets.

It's not so much they are actively encouraging that you should listen to rap music or put into action the ideas and themes expressed in some (not all) rap music, it's more that knowing hundreds of thousands of people listen to rap music that if they write and print about what's popular then they'll sell more copies.
It's business. It's about making money. It's as simple as that.
If you don't like the concepts, don't buy the CDs, don't download the songs and above all don't be daft enough to pay money to phone up TV stations to play their videos!

I'm talking about T.V ,radio, movies, magazines and newspapers. I know that they are not activley encouraging it, and that its all about money. I just think its wrong that they are makeing the "life" of rappers and their music to be "cool" and its the ways to act since "they" do and they have all the money. I see young kids comeing into where I work all the time dressed like a the people in the rap videos and outside my store and other places trying to act like "thugz". I think they are acting stupid and immature. They just need to realize that the way they are acting is not the way to get anwhere in life, by trying to imitate the music and actions of the rappers.
like alc2285 said, it's what they know is already popular, so they publisize it even more because they know more people are into that type of rubbish.
But nothing to do with that, it's completely anoying for those people like me, I'm into all alternative gothic things, & when I'm getting brainwashed everyday to act like these people, it gets annoying!
But a good thing about it, atleast people like me stay exclusive, the way I like it! But personally, I find things about Rap & stuff on tv so fake, I don't see why so many children & teenagers fall for it! I've been myself all my life, I don't need to put on an act because tv decide's it's cool!
Another thing I've noticed is it's they are the first people to jump to steriotypes, I got a can thrown at me the other day, & idiots calling me 'lemon' (lemon is replacing the sware words!) At least I'm myself!

desparingdar I agree. kids and teenagers just want to do what seems popular and cool and since t.v and the media publisize it that way then thats what they do. i just wish everyone would stop and think about what their actions are really doing to the world and how its going to affect their family and friends down the road. it just bs. but I gues to each their own.
