I have been experiencing pain in my right hand, my writing hand. It felt sore the other night while using the mouse, I thought nothing of it and went to bed hoping it would go away. I woke up today and it is still paining, lifting up objects, cat, cup etc etc... I use the computer regularly, what are the chances that I may have any of these two?

Sounds like carpal tunnel, you need to get it checked out by your GP, I think it will involve an operation if it is that, but I could be wrong, but get it checked just in case good luck, Ray

Thanks ray, I will take a break from the PC and a visit to my GP. I don't like the idea of an operation, but it is quite sore.

Cheers!

I thought carpal tunnel was a constant numbness as apposed to a pain.
Hi Kozmic, I have carpal tunnel syndrome and have tried everything from splints to injections, I wont however go down the surgery route. It doesnt sound like carpal tunnel to me, I get alot of numbness mainly in the fingers thumb, index and middle finger and half of the ring finger, and sometimes when I wake up it takes forever to get feeling back. I am pretty rubbish at clenching towards needing another treatment. I think you possibly are suffering with writers cramp, which I also get but has nothing to do with the carpal tunnel. Defintiely sounds like a repetative strain injury to me.
Hi Goods, glad somebody has come on that has got this, and for correcting me, I really thought reading the post it was going to be carpal tunnel as the symptons are exactly the same as my sister has and her doctor said it might be it, but seeing as you have it,it is good to get an answer from somebody who definately has it, take care, Ray

Ps, hope the pain goes for both of you.
Hi Kozmic
Have you thought of investing in a gel wrist support - they come on their own or built into a mouse pad. I use one of these as I work on a PC all day and if I don't use it I suffer from aching wrists and arms.
I'm a 'Display Screen Equipment' assessor at my work - I review users' work station environments - ie their seat, desk and monitors to make sure they comply with health and safety regulations (we don't want to get sued!). Staff are given advice on the correct posture while using their work-stations/computers to prevent back, neck and wrist problems. Note whether your arm is bent at the elbow at a right angle and your wrist is in a straight line with your forearm. If it's not adjust your seating and purchase a gel wrist support.
Hope my suggestion helps.
Thanks Ray, obviously I cant speak for everyone that has this and it may vary from case to case, I dont know as I am no doctor. However in my expreience it was a progressive thing and difficulty picking things up came a lot later down the line, along with having sensation loss.

I don't have a wrist support, I will get one and see if it helps. I have always had small problems with my fingers and wrists, but nothing like this. The pain starts at my hand, a dull pain and a sharper pain in my wrist, which travels up my arm. If it persists after getting a support I will contact my GP.

Thanks for all your help everyone.
