What health isues will stop a person from getting a job?
7 Answers
My partner has been offered a job -but with the proviso that the health screening is ok. Its with a health authority and the fill-in sheet mentions immunisation etc.Another sheet has all the usual things to tick (or not )- eyesight/bad backs etc.Anyone with experience of HR/personnel can say what 'could'put the brakes on the job? Just very anxious that everything goes ahead.

Definitely don't reveal that information to them, whatever you do. And they could only even potentially find out IF you have had a history of treatment (e.g., medication, hospital stay) of those conditions. If a person was untreated, then no one could possibly ever find out. As far as I know, it might even be illegal to discriminate in hiring on the basis of health conditions, even psychological conditions... But then again, many forms of discrimination are illegal but sometimes/somehow they happen anyway, as we have all witnessed at one time or another in life.

Thanks very much KEJ2000 .Thats put my mind at ease for a bit.Tere isnt any history of mental health matters.I had some idea that there is anti discrimination (laws?) about health issues but the accompanying letter was very firm about not handing in notice before the health screening was cleared and I just couldnt think what would stand in the way of a person getting the job after a successful interview.Fingers crossed that there isnt anything else to be concerned with.
A friend of mine got a job recently and was turned down on health grounds. She has a condition called Narcolepsy which means she may fall asleep at any moment unless medicated. The job involved being responsible for people so the company were unwilling to take the risk and apparently they were legally allowed to do this. Other conditions such as Epilepsy could also put the brakes on, depending on the job. These are the kind of things they are looking for, so if your partner doesn't have these, they should be OK.
