Although an icon of socialist revolutionary movements worldwide and subject of the "most famous photograph in the world" he was also known as The Butcher of la Caba�a a reference to his role as �supreme prosecutor� at the Cabana fortress where it is claimed he personally executed a lot of people without trial or defense.
Che Guevara was also a doctor. His grandfather, on one side, was an Irish emigrant named Lynch in the 19th century, who possibly left for Argentina in the exodus from the Irish midlands after the Famine. The wider Irish influence in Argentina manifests itself in the founder of its navy William Browne, in street names such as Mayo, in the names of past Presidents such as Farrell and in names like Duggan who won won Olympic medals in polo.
