junk mail
6 Answers
Like everyone else I have a lot of junk mail and would like to stop it I got a questionaire through the post from thePostal Preference Service saying that it would reduce my junk mail by limiting it to my 'Likes' and stoppling my 'Dislikes' that I noted in the questionaire . The paperwork was produced in association with The Royal Mail has anyone heard of this firm is it legit or is it another scam to get some data . If anyone knows of a way of stopping junk mail I would be grateful for your help anything just to stop my redfaced postman coming up my passage with a full sack would be a help.

I can promise you, that this works (not 100%), but I no longer get junk mail or telephone canvassers and if you do, then you can lodge a complaint with TPS or MPS.
As far as I am aware the "Postal Preference Service" is, as you say, a scam designed to find out what sort of junk mail you would prefer (in terms of what sort of products you might buy) and then to make certain that you get plenty of it. There is another service called the "Mail Preference Service" which is run by the Direct Marketing Association and which says its idea is to stop DMA members wasting their money on mail which goes straight into the bin. I registered for it about a year ago, but I can't say I've noticed much difference in the amount of c**p coming through the letterbox. Now the Telephone Preference Service is another matter. I registered with it about three years ago and haven't had a single call since from anyone selling double glazing or anything else.
I AM one of those red faced Postmen..I am glad someone thinks of us and in return I will duvulge the secret of 'murdering' junk mail.
Very simply put 'died' on each letter and re post it. Not only does the sender have to pay postage twice..more for me..but you get removed from said mailing list to prevent 'embarresing' mailings.
If you stick it in the bin the sender thinks you have read it..and sends another.
By the way the Postal Preference Service translates as "we will keep sending you rubbish, what kind of rubbish do you prefer"?
