i cant help noticing that the same people answer alot of the questions and that they seem to know each other. is this just that you are all very friendly people or do you all know each other outside the answerbank?

Some of the more regular contributers to the site have been here for a few years now and have got to know each other quite well.....As the site itself refuses to open up a chat room or encourage chatty type threads (probably my fault after one question of mine garnered over 1,700 replies..oops!) there is a unofficial site for users to meet and greet and swap file messages etc... you'll find it at

http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/answerbok/

Hope to see you there!

As with many internet "communities", if you are new to a site, it does seem like everyone knows each other. And that's why Answerbank is so great, it's a very welcoming web-site, with very few of the normal idiots that seem to populate the internet.

As for everyone knowing each other outside of Answerbank, I doubt it very much - with maybe a couple of exceptions.

For all I know, Quizmonster may be sitting in a filthy caravan eating Pork Scratchings in his string vest, drinking copious quantities of Vimto, whilst revealing the phenomenal origins of obscure English phrases - and generally amazing us all!

I'm sure I speak for all, when I wish you a warm welcome to the site. Enjoy it. I think it's fab!

Now where's my pork pie?
You fiend, Headtime! You've obviously succeeded in tracking me down...I shall have to go on the lam again. A fugitive once more...and at my age!

Seriously, Monkeyfish, let me welcome you to what is a very friendly - by and large - website. Outright hostility is rare, though a note of acerbity does occasionally creep in! I imagine, however, that very few of us have ever personally met.

I'd like to add my greetings monkeyfish - I haven't met any of my co-contributors, but we do act like a big happy family - it's the atmosphere we try to project here, and it seems to work, judging by the long life of this site. So, question, and indeed answer, away!
Hello! Nice to see you - I'm beenee. Proof that you don't have to be brainy to be able to share on here. Stay.. you'll like it. :o)
There used to be a lot of 'community spirit' on this site and I felt quite at home but recently there seems to be a lot less familiar people. i have seen answerbok mentioned once or twice, but don't get what they're on about.
I'd never imagined Quizmonster to be like that before but I love the image!!!! Just add long, mucky, uncombed hair, (bit bald on top), nicotine-stained fingers and a yellow ceiling from all that cigarette smoke, and of course a hacking cough! (Sorry Quizzy!!!)

But then this obviously leads on to another question... Describe the answerbanker!!!

Welcome monkeyfish try the link provided by sft42. Coggles - naughty, bad girl, tsk.
Hi & welcome monkeyfish. I've only been using this site for a year & in that time have found the majority of users to be friendly, helpful & informative. I know what you mean tho' Coggles, at one time, one or two immature & aggressive users spoilt it for others, but they've since been erradicated - thankfully, so enjoy!
Looked into Answerbok and it looks real fun and friendly, so I have joined - is that ok archbishop?
Hi Monkeyfish. I only found this site about six weeks ago and I'm glad I did. As has already been said people here are friendly and helpful. You don't have to be super clever as Beenee has said ( I know you're brainier than you make out, Beenee). That image of Quizmonster in his caravan is just perfect. And I'm sure the archbishop is a pillar of his rural community organizing coffee mornings, W.I. meetings and choir practice.(How is the church roof appeal coming on?) You don't have to meet the others personally, Monkeyfish, just join in the Q&A's and leave the rest to your imagination. Welcome.
this thread reads like a who's who of my favourite answerbankers (and answerbokkers), well done everyone for proving monkeyfish right, very friendly indeed :-D
It's not the roof I've just found out I need a completely new floor. Somebody up there (you know who) has got it in for me. Thanks coggles.
You can spend a lot of time trying to fit faces (and bodies) to names here; QM is an example. I saw what I thought must be him in Frinton-on-Sea once but he denies ever being in a place with no proper reference library and only one pub, so I muse on .
I apologise in advance that I am not directly answering your question! I had to stick my tuppence worth in cos Treacle mentions favourite a-bankers and a-bokers, and I didn't want to feel left out (please be my friend!!!). I use both sites as well, and they both have their own unique services to offer. As sft42 says, his attempt at a record was construed as chat and that is not what anserbank is about - this thread is going the same way! STOP IT NOW, and you might as well check out the answerbok link while you are at it!!
Theree is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about. :-)
You wish.
Monkeyfish - go to see a new bod - we're all as mad as badgers - as you've probably discovered. Enjoy! 'bishy are you sure you're not on the roof and it does need replacing? Look out for Lightning bolts!
Oops for "go to see'" read "good to see '"
