Back gate

The gate from our back garden opens (inwardly) onto a made up public foot path that is fronted by two cottages. There is no vehicular access to these cottages and the path is a dead end at our gate. The gate has been through our fence for as long as we have lived at the property (14 years) and is kept locked at all times. The new residents of the two cottages have decided thay no longer like the pedestrian traffic of my family and freinds walking past their front doors and tell us they will block our gate. Help please!
