in the uk i know of three minsters , ie york, howden, and southwell.
does anyone know of any others.

In east Suffolk in Iken there is St Botulf's Minster....well worth a visit if you ever in that area. Wonderful ! Not far from Sutton Hoo. It was a monastery which is where it gets it title.. Minster ..as the abbot presided rather than a bishop because the old English word mynster means monastery.Pre reformation as were many cathedrals and churches. It isn't the seat of a bishop nowadays...but still retains the name.

Lincoln Cathedral is also known as Lincoln Minster. (It's school is Lincoln Minster School, not Lincoln Cathedral School).

The parish church in Preston became a minster a few years ago, I think at the same time that the town won city status to celebrate the Queen's golden jubilee.

how does a church get promoted to be a minster? (as mentioned in a couple of posts here)
