Talented Women

Let me just put this query out here. I hear that women are better multi-taskers,more socially adept and better verbally skilled. Presuming these abundant talents to be true,why are they not more commercially successful in e.g. running their own businesses?

Because the status quo dictates that men are 'in charge', and the in-place systems perpetuate this situation. That's not feminist ranting, it's simple fact. Things are changing very slowly, but it will take a few more generations yet before the balance shifts significantly. Now, where's my morning coffee got to?

Because women are already bust doing the vastly important businesses of raising children, babysitting, feeding, cooking, cleaning, chauffeuring, shopping, housekeeping etc. while we inferior men tinker with toys and foibles and tokens in meaningless bourgeois offices and factories.

Have to totally agreee with these views. My wife is a well-educated professional, with an even higher IQ than mine, mature, experienced, brilliantly intelligent and greatly personally intuitive. But having had to give up work due to illness many years ago, and now being fully recovered, she has found it utterly impossible even to secure interviews for jobs that she could do blindfold, simply because a) she's a woman, and b) she's over 40.. All her career hopes and aspirations are in ruins, simply because the men who still award the vast majority of interviews and jobs don't have the imagination or perception to see past their own most basic prejudices.

What about these network clubs for women in business. Surely this is one way to bypass some of the discrimination in working society. And I know about their ticking biological clock,but, from about 20yrs-to-35yrs,they could have a happy loving relationship or 4,and make their way in the world,planning for children at some future date. Some of the most admirable women for me are those who reflect the commercial acumen and long-term planning of men e.g. Catherine de Medici,Madame C.J. Walker,Ayn Rand.

Women are better at multi-tasking = doing many things at the same time badly, as opposed to men who concentrate on one thing at a time and do it properly. Before I'm ripped to shreds, I am only joking.

I know you were joking scubaboy but you are correct, its been shown that while women are better on the whole at multi-tasking, men on the whole have a greater sense of focus.

In my opinion its because generally they are not hard enough. To be successful in buisness you have to make difficult decisions, tread on people on the way up and all in all have a bit of a nasty streek. Some women have it but many don't. I'm not claiming men are better than women or visa versa. Any women can get a bank loan and start a buisness, she would have to answer to nobody.

As a smart, intuitive 50 plus multi tasking happily married woman with a middle management role in the NHS (no kids) speaking personally it's because I don't want to!!!! My husband has been the career driven person in the partnership, we're both happy with that and decided from the outset that the team could only cope with one!!!
