you have already mentioned that it is symbolic... which immediatly detracts from the actual vampishnesh of the situation...but isee your point... I think that food and drink is a very social event-eating meals with your family and friends. The bread represents jesus' body which was put on this earth and was killed by us. The wine represents his blood, which was spilt for us. The idea of eating bread and wine is to remember what he did for us. I dont think that it actually means it is his blood... however some christians believe it changes after its been consumed - to which i have not much knowledge. hmmm

The 'some christians' you refer to include catholics who believe in transubstantiation.

many folk have difficulty in describing the catholics as christians....but in their eyes they are not eating human flesh but the flesh of a deity in human form.....so there is a technical difficulty. There was a persecution under diocletian that used this as an excuse to try to wipe them out.
