is it true that he and his brother had anti-semitic, almost Nazi-ish beliefs? Anyone know anything about the Freedom Association they were involved in? This came up in a discussion in the office just now after we heard he had died. I always thought he was just a bumbling old man interested in tumbling dominos not a fascist.

I don't know anything particular about the McWhirters, but I've just been to the Freedom Assoc's site http://www.tfa.net It is campaigning about an EU referendum, for a debate on asylum and immigration and for people to be able to purchase herbal remedies over the counter...nothing particulary fascist or nazi...seemed to me like old fashioned conservative with a touch of middle aged hippy.

and read in particular the section headed 'Freedom Association', an organisation of which he was president The rest of the site is revealing, too.

cheers, thought as much.
In other words, not far-right on the surface, but underneath probably a different matter. A bit like the police then.
