Friday in the office and today's topic is 'name a celeb that no-one has a bad word to say about'. So far we have Bill Oddie and Trevor McDonald. Not a great start. Any more ideas?
Bamber Gascoigne - hardly a celeb but we're allowing it. Dustin Hoffman got one no from someone who says he hasn't done anything good for ages. Peter Ustinov we agree with but we're looking for people still alive (it's easier to be popular when you're dead). Meryl Streep is a no ( a few people find her annoying). Can't have the Pope (almost started some nasty arguments here!). Mother Theresa - yes but dead. Goldie Hawn a no - too treacly (whatever that means). Einstein - no. Kenny Everett and Bob Monkhouse - both dead but definitely not universally popular in our office I'm afraid. Rolf Harris - a definite yes. Thanks everyone so far. Keep em coming.
I was going to say David Niven before the 'no stiffs' bit came up. Tom Hanks always comes across as a 'nice' bloke in interviews, as does Samuel L jackson, who seems a humble bloke too.
Doesn't tens of thousands of people taking the pee out of someone count against their niceness? I'm referring to Rolf Harris, who is ridiculed by celebrities (especially impersonators) and Joe Public alike. Mike Spilligan? Everyone loves him.
I think you'll have to stick to 'safe' people like Henry Cooper or perhaps Frank Carson as most names mentioned here has something that annoys someone.
Jimmy Saville is meant to be nice but weird. My Mum met Spike Milligan but didn't realise who it was and he got her a chair to sit on without pointing out he was a celeb or anything. I've heard Rolf Harris is nasty off screen!
