surely an acquaintance is someone you know who is less than a friend. it seems to me you've sort of answered your own question, but the question should really be 'if somebody isn't a friend or an enemy, what would they be?' answer: an acquaintance

Haha I still think "a random" is the best answer. Come on, we all know them, the ones you invite somewhere once because you feel sorry for them and from then on they just turn up everywhere.

Nothing to do with me, seal!, but I find it rather disturbing that you seem to think that someone you hate is an "enemy". You should reserve that word for someone who has, or might, do you harm, not for someone you simply dislike, however intense that dislike might be.
