Are old people in those motorised buggy things a la Thora Hird actually legally allowed on the roads? Cos they are doing my head in - i am sure that they are more of a menace on the road and it's more dangerous for them - shouldn't they be on the pavement? AARRGGHH! thanx x

Becks, you'll be really sorry to hear this, but they are allowed drive their motorised scooter thingies on the road.....I've just been studying for my theory driving test, and the Highway Code states that they can travel at up to a neckbreaking 8mph. Users may ride on the road and even on a dual carriageway as long as they display a flashing amber beacon! So watch out for grannies a la IrnBru ad on a street near you.....!
I'm sure it would "do your head in" more, if you were that old person who found it so difficult to get around on your own legs and had to resort to using a buggy. Don't worry, your time will come.

Molly you misunderstand, it is not the buggies and old people that do my head in, it's the fact that they are on the road when i am sure that that is more dangerous for themselves and other road users. All i wanted to know is whether they should be on the pavement.
if all motorist drove on the pavement it would keep accidents off the roads !
Sorry Becks, you're right, it does seem a bit dangerous. I presume you will allow them to cross over the road though.
