These things change depending on share prices etc. but currently believed to be holding No1 spot is Ingvar Kamprad - The boss of IKEA who is worth approx 32billion which is about 2billion more than Bill Gates at present, this is in part due to the falling dollar.
Hmm.. If we're talking personal accumulated wealth rather than corporate, which I suspect is the case with Mr Kamprad, I always understood that for a long time Bill Gates has been the single richest man in the world, by a very considerable margin - and the Sultan of Brunei was the next nearest, with rather less than HALF of Bill Gates' pile... Maybe things have changed a lot recently...
The figures I am quoting are personal wealth although for both Bill and Ingvar, the majority of their personal wealth is dependent upon the share price of their individual companies as most of their wealth is tied up in shares.
