Lake District romantic locations
7 Answers
Hello. I'm going to the Lake District next week with my girlfriend and intend on proposing. Does anyone know of any particularly romantic locations for such an occasion? Thanks.

If you're looking for a nice (albeit pricey) hotel in the area Holbeck Gyhll is nice, near Troutbeck - http://www.slh.com/england/windermere/hotel_ylleng.html
and Linthwaite House is very nice too - http://www.linthwaite.com/hotel/but only if you fancy being nearer the centre of things. Windermere will be swarming this summer so you would be better perhaps using it as a base from which to explore the rest of the region. If you prefer somewhere more remote The Kirkstile Inn in Loweswater is secluded, romantic and surrounded by gorgeous views - http://www.kirkstile.com/index.html
As far as specific (spectacular) locations/views which might suit your purpose are concerned I'd check out the Langdale Valley around Hardknott and Wrynose Pass (if your car'll make it), Skelwith Force, Tewit Tarn, Skiddaw, Blencathra and of course Scafell. Bear in mind that a lot of the great Lakes views look even more spectacular and romantic at nightfall. Having said all that I proposed to my wife in a hotel room and only after she dropped a not-so-subtle hint (I was busy taking off my socks and picking out toe-jam) so what do I know?
