Morning all...first time on in over a month. Had lots to sort. I'm getting married in October. Anyway...something completely random......any ideas for a christening gift for a wee boy. Nothing too religious (I know that kinda defeats the object), and nothing too mundane and common!! Something a bit different I think. Thanks. xx
Hi andi,
i bet youre very busy with wedding plans, October will come around very fast.
How old is the little boy? I bought my nephews some educational toys and also out some money towards their future, although was a bit peeved when their mum said 'oh they can spend that at hilday park next week'
Im not sure you can start an account in the childs name.
How about a decent money box? or ask the parents where the childs trust fund is held. That way, if you do give money the child cant get to it until hes 16.
Yeah there seems to be lots of the traditional silver stuff aroung but to be honest I find it a bit boring really, and probably something that will just get shuvved into a cupboard and never used!!
You can get some beautiful little wooden stools with carvings and pictures on them. ( Cancer Research shops sometimes have them.) They're new ones. My cousin got one and I then under the edge of the seat between the legs, I wrote in gold pen, baby's name, date of birth, place christened and date of chrstening. Then just went over writing with clear varnish or clear nail varnish. She said the parents loved it.
In the past I have bought these as presents, hoping that they would gain in value:-
Old toys in good condition, eg a little cream coloured die cast metal bus in its original box from the late 1940's, or a limited edition toy sports car.
An original work of art (say a small watercolour of an interesting subject, say a ferocious looking ram or an angry goose) by a not very well known but obviously talented artist.
I always go for a collectable teddy bear with the little ones name - just google the name plus bear and see what comes up - Boyds bears do some lovely ones that are not too expensive.
I have managed to get one of these for all my nieces and nephews when they were born - it has taken a bit of searching sometimes!!
