I am taking my B/F to Las Vegas for his 30th birthday next year - planning ahead. And I am wondering roughly how much spending money to take with us. I have never been abroad before and a little stuck on this . The hotel, flights and transfers are all sorted, I just need a rough guide on cash and also if anyone has been - what did you think?? Thanks in advance

You must go on the Big Shot on top of the Stratosphere, it is the craziest ride ever! And the ride coming out of hotel New York New York, do all the rides they are fab! How long are you going for? As this obviously depends on how much money you will need to take. And you will need more money if you are planning on doing a bit of gambling!
I went for a week and managed to limit my spending to just over 1000. That included a decent meal or two at the Bellagio (decent by my normal standards) and a fair bit of gambling. The key is to set a limit to how much you gamble in one day, I managed to keep to this and even won some!
The place is amazing and I am looking forward to going again soon. You must try a show or two as they are usually very good. The Blue Man Group at the Luxor are highly recommended.
The bar at New York, New York with the dualling pianos (next door to Coyote Ugly) is also a great night out.
Have fun.
Yeah baby! Vegas is WICKED!! Depends what you want to do, there's literally hundreds of shops, mainly in the Venetian and Caesar's Palace so if you want to do shopping take a credit card! Other than that, pezza's right, you have to do the rides, see the bellagio fountains and take a gondola ride inthe venetian. Food isn't too expensive and portions are massive. bear in mind there's loads of gambling as well and if you're into that take mmoney for that and limit it to that, otherwise you'll spend all your money on it. As for shows, try and fit one in, they're not too expensive, i too saw the blue man group and they were fantastic, as well as mystere which was probably the most awesome thing i've ever seen! Weather will be wicked, and there's the helicopter rides and stuff which i didn't do and wish i had... have an awesome time!
Whenever i've been to Vegas i've usually taken about 1000 with me for the week. The food is cheap wherever you eat but the drink can vary greatly, most hotels on the strip were charging $3 upwards for a bottle of beer although in Casino Royale you could get a bottle for 99c, and it's right at the heart of the strip. Shopping for clothes is excellent too. GOOD LUCK!!!!
It sounds as though you are planning to take cash or travellers cheques. If you can, I would recommend taking a minimal amount this way, and just use a credit card for your spending. You normally can expect a better rate of exchange and you don't have to worry about whether you have enough money. With your card you can also lift cash from ATMs or casinos. Whatever you decide, I am sure you will have a great time. It's hard not to! Don't miss the naval battle at Treasure Island.
She Who Must Be Obeyed (when she was just 'The Girlfriend') took ME to Vegas for my 30th and we took 500 for a long weekend, (which she promptly doubled at the tables). We were down to our last $50 on the Monday but we gambled all day every day so if you plan on doing some sightseeing too I reckon a grand should about see you right. If you or your B/F play poker I'd recommend checking out the daily poker tournaments whilst you're in town. Very low stakes, some very poor players (the tourists and croupiers rather than the locals), and the opportunity to win BIG! The slots have a very good return rate in Vegas, especially if you join the casino's slots club - on my trip out in April I invested an initial $20 and won $600 - but remember to quit playing when you get a result!
Sorry BenDToy the naval battle isn't there anymore, i went in september last year and they had stopped it and were redoing it into some sexy sirens thing. Vegas is trying to get away from families and kids so they're making it all more adult which is why they took away the pirate battle. although my ex said it had been the best thing on his previous trip... probably explains why he has yet to grow up!
Sorry to disagree with ya Becks, but I went to Vegas for New Year and the battle was happening then - they must've come to their senses! I think everyone's already covered the best stuff there. Vegas can be as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be - we took about 600 each & came back with almost half of it! My top tip would be the free cocktails - if you hang around the slots (you don't even have to be playing in some casinos!) you get lovely waitresses bringing you free drinks - the better the casino, the better the range & quality of cocktails!! It's ace, I hope you have a brilliant time!
