We're hoping to go there for a holiday next year-has anyone ever been and did you enjoy it? Can you recommend a good hotel and what's it like generally?

I haven't stayed nearby but it's a remarkable place to visit. It seems to be built entirely of shining stone, both the walls and streets. The damage from the Yugoslav civil wars was patched up very quickly. You can walk right round the old town on top of the city walls, and I recommend it. (There are modern suburbs on the hills nearby, not so interesting.)
