As I understand it, you have to have a permanent address for car registration documents, road tax and insurance. How do gyspies/travelling people get around this?

in my area there is a nurse led drop in clinic for hard to reach populations (ie travellers, asylum seekers, homeless) they let them use the address of the clinic as a correspondance address
From the ones i've seen I think they get around it by not bothering to tax and insure their vehicles. It is far to easy for vehicles to fall off the dvla records (as much as they'd like you to think that they know who every car belongs to its simply not true)

So what's to stop me registering my car as being on an island in the Western Isles? Car crime negligible so tiny insurance premium?

As I recall, it's a fine of 1000 for failing to notify DVLA of a change of address for a licence, and something similar for failing to update the car registration docs. Can't see how travellers can meet these requirement without a permanent address.

So if the rozzers stop a motorist, do they have a specific test to tell a traveller from a commuter?
If you look on the side of there white vans they have an 0800 number which goes to an address somewhere else in the country and to have the 0800 number they just get one of there mates who live in a house to answer the phone and pass work on to ther Gypo friends, thus having an address they then register there cars and vans to that address....
pikies are above the law anyway, I'd be surprised if they bothered with tax/insurance/mot. They trespass with impunity and steal anything that isn't nailed down. They contribute nothing to society and take what they can get.
plowter, it's easy to tell a commuter from a pikkey. ....is there a great big s0d off caravan on the back??
i agree with MrsT, a drain on society with their nasty ways.
I used to have to work with them. None of them could "read" or so they said - but show them an amount of money written on a piece of paper and they knew how much it was straight away.

This isn't racism by the way to any politically correct Aber out there. This isn't sterotyping a race this is an in bred (take that as you will !!) trait thats passed down generation to generation. I have never come accross a law abiding, tax paying (whether it be car tax, income tax etc)national insurance paying "traveller" as they wish to be called - and I've worked with hundreds. The ones who dont travel unless it's reclassified as being "chased" by the police - then they always go off to Ireland (for Ireland see Birmingham or some other "travellers" site. They will pinch anything that's not screwed down - then they would take a wrench to it anyway.

If anyone thought they were above the law it's travellers, pikeys, gypos - call them what you will. They dont pay car tax insurance or anything that the normal motorist pays - they cost me 30 per insurance premium I pay to pay for their uninsured recklessness. They do have permanant addresses - their's plenty of sites around here where they "live".

Viz had it exactly right about them !!
I think a certain Fuhrer had the right Idea.
does any one have a good word to say for the pikkies?
apart from p1ss off?
i know i won't get hassle from them 'cos they can't read.
